In the century of fast-developing technician progress the chances of single persons to find a life-mate are reducing. The times of matchmakers are gone and they have been replaced by marriage agencies. Unfortunately (or fortunately), there is more than enough work to do in this field. Newspapers are eloquently full of the ads given by the people of both sexes who don't believe anymore in the possibility to find a life-partner themselves or by chance. Tendencies of last years show a successful runaway of marriage agencies in finding potential wives and husbands which specialize on local and foreign "materials".

In Gomel there are a lot of charming ladies looking for life-mates, and there are four (according to unofficial statistics) marriage agencies providing their services. We have chosen the one which introduces the women from Gomel to the citizens of foreign countries. It has been five years since this agency started and they have matched 30 pairs whom they helped during the whole process starting from the first letter and up to the fiance-visa application. However, the agency-staff suggest us to multiply this number in five, as there should be added those who met through this agency, but then decided to develop their relationships without exterior help. Often a foreigner after he has found the information about a lady starts writing her via snail-mail. Many women who know foreign languages lead correspondence via personal e-mails, and some prefer to use telephone-services. In this case not always they find it necessary to inform their "matchmakers" about the happy changes in their lives. According to director of the agency Vitaly Shapovalov about 914 ladies have been deleted. "Of course not all of the women married foreigners, but about 20%, - says Vitaly, - have found their life-partners through the agency.

The youngest bride is 18, the most mature - over 60. Recently it has been increasing the percentage of the ladies who are under 30 y.o., having higher education and willing to experience adventures. An average man applying to the agency is 40-63 y.o. Geography is wide - America, Europe, Australia, Canada, Japan and the Bermudas. Generally, the male-clients of the agency are financially stable, looking for their other halves, in the countries of former Soviet Union in particular as our women have the reputation of the wives able to create family-warmth and comfort, unlike their overseas ones spoiled by feminism.

The agency serves female-clients free of charge from placing their information at web-side to applying visa-documents which are paid by their future bridegrooms. Also the agency provides a very romantic service which is hand-delivering of letters and gifts from foreigners by agency's personal courier. By the way, the list of the presents includes cards, flowers, cuddled toys, fruit- and even delicious-baskets.

In the Eve of Valentine's Day it feels like telling a story about a wonderful "Cinderella" with a happy end, some love-story in Belarusian interpretation about a girl who fell in love and followed her beloved across the oceans and the seas.

Once upon a time a girl under the name of Olesia lived in the town of Gomel and wished to marry a foreigner. A marriage-agency promised to help in her sorrows. And really did. Soon after that Olesia saw her intended who came to meet her in her native town. She was over the heavens. However, it appeared that Jack from North Carolina arranged the appointments not only with our heroin, but with some others in order to make a right choice. Only during his third visit Jack made his choice at last and pleaded Olesia for forgiveness, explained that his soul had wandered in the darkness before, but then he came to Epiphany, so, Jack asked Olesia to marry him. Olesia forgave Jack immediately and accepted the proposal. Then were 6 happiest months of her sweetheart being a gallant (while fiance-visa was being processed). It's passed 2 years since: Now there is one more happy family in North Carolina.

P.S. As one official says: "It is a pity that one of the competitive Belarusian products which are ladies is exported so cheap".
